Possible Side Effects:

Baytril is generally well tolerated when used as directed. Gastrointestinal side effects such as lack of appetite and vomiting are possible. Central nervous system (CNS) disorders, such as seizures, dizziness, depressions, nervousness, or other behavior changes are also possible but are rare. In cats, you may see changes in vision or dilated pupils but this is rare. Signs of an allergic reaction to Baytril include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If your pet displays any unusual symptoms while taking Baytril, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Drug and Food Interactions:

Always tell your veterinarian about any other medications, vitamins, or supplements your pet is taking prior to starting Baytril. Interactions may occur with sucralfate, warfarin, phenytoin, oral cyclosporine, theophylline, or probenecid. Do not use within 2 hours of giving antacids, sucralfate, iron, aluminum, calcium, or dairy products because absorption of this medication may be decreased.

Precautions:

Should not be used in animals that are hypersensitive (allergic) to fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin. Should be used cautiously in animals with central nervous system (CNS) disorders such as epilepsy because of the possibility of seizures although this is rare. Should also be used with caution in pets with liver or kidney disease. May cause problems in the development of bones/joints of young animals, including large breeds of dogs under 18 months of age. Safety Information Baytril is well tolerated by the patient. In clinical studies less than 1% of dogs vomited when treated with Baytril at 5mg/kg. In rare instances, use of this product has been associated with retinal toxicity in cats. Baytril is contraindicated in the rapid growth phase of dogs.

Instructions

It is important to follow your Veterinarian's prescription instructions for your pet.

This medication is given orally (by mouth).

Baytril Taste Tabs can be given every 24 hours (once a day) or the dose can be split and given every 12 hours (twice daily).

The correct dose and dosing frequency will be determined by your veterinarian so always follow his/her instructions.

Make sure your pet has unlimited access to water while taking this medication.

Do not give Baytril Taste Tabs within two hours of giving dairy products.

If you have difficulty giving your pet this medication, contact your veterinarian for further instructions.

Make sure you complete the entire course of antibiotics even if your pet appears to feel better before the entire regimen is complete.

If the entire course of treatment is not given, infections can recur or worsen.
