 Potential Side Effects:

Tell your veterinarian if your pet has ever had an allergic reaction to a sulfa based drug such as SMZ/TMP bactrim, Septra, sulfisoxazole, sulfamethoxazole, or sulfacetamide sodium Bleph-10, Sulamyd Sodium. Dorzolamide HCl is based on a sulfa compound and your pet may have an allergic reaction to it. Tell your veterinarian if your pet has kidney or liver disease. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant, lactating, or if you intend to breed your pet.

Precautions:

  • Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet.
  • Quite often, your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, and sometimes a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely.
  • Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.

 

  • Dorzolamide HCl Sterile Ophthalmic Solution is a prescription medication not FDA approved for veterinary use however, it is a commonly accepted practice for veterinarians to prescribe this medication for dogs and cats. 

 

  • Tell your veterinarian if your pet is being given an oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor such as acetazolamide Diamox, dichlorphenamide Daranide, or methazolamide Neptazane. 
  • Avoid applying other topical medications at the same time unless told to by the veterinarian. 
  • Other topical medications may affect the absorption or effectiveness of Dorzolamide HCl. 
  • Drugs other than those listed may also interact with Trusopt. 
  • Talk to your veterinarian or pharmacist before giving any prescription or over the counter medications, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.

Instructions

Dosage and Administration:

It is important to follow your Veterinarian's prescription instructions for your pet

The usual dose is 1 drop in the eye 3 times a day.

Apply this medication to the pet's eye by pushing the Finger Push Area of the dropper bottle which then releases a single drop of the medication.

If you are using any other eye drop in your pet's eye, wait 10 minutes between the use of different medications

Check label directions and shake bottle if necessary

READ THE LABEL CAREFULLY.

Wash your hands before administering the mediation

Remove excess discharge from around the eye with a moistened cloth

 Instill the drops in the pet's eyes as directed by your veterinarian.

Remove the cap and avoid contaminating the tip of the medication bottle with the environment or your fingers

Tilt your pet's head back so that they are looking up towards the ceiling

Gently hold the eyelids open and with the other hand holding the medication bottle, rest your hand above the eye

Be sure that the tip of the medication bottle is not pointed towards the eye in case of any sudden movements

Ensure that the tip of the medication bottle does not touch your pet's eye, eyelids, or lashes

Apply the correct amount of drops into the eye

Continue to hold your pet's head up and allow them to blink to distribute the drops over the entire eye

Place the cap back on the medication bottle and avoid contaminating the inside of the cap with your fingers

Wash your hands after applying any eye medication

Always praise and reward your pet to encourage cooperation

 DO NOT touch the eye with the tip of the dropper.

DO NOT give the pet more medicine than directed and do not give more often than directed.

Try not to miss giving any doses.

This medication may cause stinging upon application.
