How Safe is PERCORTEN-V ?

Yes. Rigorous clinical testing has proven how safe PERCORTEN-V (desoxycorticosterone pivalate) Injectable Suspension is. In fact, it's the only treatment approved by the FDA* for Canine Addison's Disease.

Side Effects:


It has been demonstrated that PERCORTEN®-V desoxycorticosterone pivalate Injectable Suspension is well tolerated with a low incidence of side effects. In a small percentage of treated dogs, depression, excessive thirst and urination, digestive, skin and coat changes, weakness, and injection site reactions pain, abscesses may occur. Some of these effects may resolve with adjustments in dose or interval of PERCORTEN-V or concomitant glucocorticoid administration. Do not use in pregnant dogs or in dogs that are suffering from congestive heart disease, severe renal disease, or edema. You should speak to your veterinarian for more information.  What you should know about this drug:

 

*It can not be given  to cats. PERCORTEN®-V desoxycorticosterone pivalate Injectable Suspension is strictly for the treatment of Canine Addison's Disease and should only be administered to dogs.

* PERCORTEN-V is not recommended for pregnant dogs. Pregnant dogs should not use PERCORTEN®-V desoxycorticosterone pivalate Injectable Suspension. For full product information, see product label.

*PERCORTEN-V is not recommended for dogs with heart disease or other conditions.  PERCORTEN®-V desoxycorticosterone pivalate Injectable Suspension should not be used on dogs suffering from congestive heart disease, severe renal disease or edema. Dogs with renal failure must be stabilized before receiving PERCORTEN-V. 


Instructions

Administration:

It is important to follow your Veterinarian's prescription for your pet.

Your veterinarian will give your dog PERCORTEN®-V desoxycorticosterone pivalate as an injection about every 25 days. In addition, PERCORTEN-V must be given in conjunction with oral steroid replacement therapy, under the direction of your veterinarian.
